110x30 cm ~ Sculpture, Stone ~ Stone
sculpture in 3 parts; a modernist female figure referencing both moveable prehistoric art and early 20th century modernist art is placed on a stone column with a relief carving of a first world war Mauser rifle butt mounted on a small stone shelf. The sculpture commemorates the 1914-18 war and particularly the life and death of French sculptor Henri Gaudier-Brzeska whose last carving was perhaps a madonna carved into a broken german rifle butt and who was killed in action in 1915 with a bullet in the head.
